The Big Spring Fire Department was first established in 1907 as volunteer department. As the city grew the need for a full time paid department arose and in the 1930's the City of Big Spring evolved to a full time fire department. In 1909 Big Spring was the first city in Texas to receive a motorized fire truck in the state of Texas. Today, the Big Spring Fire Department serves a population of more than 30,000.
